Trip to Prideaux Place

A group of 44 members of Hayle u3a visited Prideaux Place, near Padstow, on 12th September 2024

We had a lunch stop at Trevisker Garden Centre and travelled the short distance to Prideaux Place, where our first sight was the herd of fallow deer.

The house has been in the Prideaux family since 1592, and we enjoyed a guided tour of the house and learned about some of the interesting family treasures.

We were lucky that the rain held off so that we could visit the gardens and outdoor buildings including the dairy and armoury.

A big thank you to Alison, Mike and Joy for organising the trip, and to Mike for the Photos.

Trip to Buckfast Abbey

45 members of Hayle u3a enjoyed a coach trip to Buckfast Abbey, home to a community of Benedictine Monks, on 15th May 2025.

In glorious sunshine we were able to tour the gardens and view the magnificent Abbey Church and some of its treasures.

A Monastic Way Exhibition provided a presentation of Benedictine Monastic life from its origins to the present day and included an informative recording of a question-and-answer session with the Abbott and other members of the community.

The food in the restaurant and cake shop was enjoyed by many of us too.
